As these units are fast approaching time for a new battery, just like to say it is possible to replace then without taking the covers off. I have done a couple thru the small access door on the underside, although it would be simpler if one was a double jointed midget. The last time i used a duct tape strip on half the diameter to keep the battery under control while manoeuvring it into place with long handled pliers. Then once battery was pressed into place the duct tape peeled off easily and was removed.

Thats good news. I have a tray loading G3 that won't keep time. I guess I need to replace a battery too. What battery does it take?

EDIT: Oh, wait: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=26673&TabID=1&source=15&Wor

One like that, right?

Not a bad price either. Very Happy
So to get things straight, I won't have to take out the RAM (some people have said that is a way to change the battery)? On a tray-loading Mac, tampering with the RAM requires you to practically take the whole thing apart.

My experience has been with 500 & 600 slot loaders so u might have to do more search on that. When i did the battery both times i added a 512 ram stick as well but did not remove ram for battery replacement but made sure i was earthed to the chassis.

Yeah, I think its a little harder with the tray-loader. I found a tutorial:
http://www.djonmac.com/battery/changebattery.html

Haven't read through it yet, but it appears to involve taking the computer apart.
